Balasore, Jun 26 (UNI): Special POCSO court judge Ajanta Sadangi convicted a rape accused and sentenced him 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000, here today.

The judge ordered that the convict will undergo imprisonment for a further nine months if he failed to pay the fine.

According to the prosecution, Bapun Singh (20) of village Bankapada under Chandipur police station limits had kidnapped and raped a 14-year-old girl way back in September 2017.

He kept the girl in a house in the town and sexually assaulted her for four days. He was nabbed by the police near Station square while trying to escape.

The father of the victim had lodged a complaint with the police.

Special public prosecutor Pranab Panda said the incident was treated as a red flag case by the state crime branch.

The judgment was pronounced by the court today after cross examining 15 witnesses and exhibition of 20 documents.
