Sonowal urges gaon burhas to work with responsibility to ensure effective implementation of govt schemes

Guwahati, Dec 6 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday urged upon the gaon burhas of the state to work with responsibility to ensure effective implementation of government schemes and to uplift the society socially, culturally, economically and spiritually.

While taking part as chief guest in the 38th central session of the association of gaon burhas of Assam, Sonowal said that the gaon burhas should work for strengthening harmony and creating a congenial environment in the society.

“The gaon burhas are an important institution in the administrative set up and they are being empowered to perform more effectively. They will have to play a pivotal role in developing model villages and to rid the society from superstition and social evils,” Sonowal said.

Sonowal informed that the government would take all possible steps for assuaging their grievances including issues related to their remuneration, medical allowance etc.

He also said that government would build a Gaon Burha Bhawan in Guwahati and take steps for providing allowance to them whenever engaged in election duty.

Referring to the NRC updation exercise, the Assam CM sought cooperation of the gaon-burhas in ensuring the publication of an error-free draft.

He also underlined the potential of the youth of rural areas and the role gaon burhas could play in promoting their talents.

Sonowal also observed that Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Setu holds tremendous potential for the growth of Sadia and assured that govt. would take appropriate measures so that farmers get fair price for their produce.

The Assam CM also called upon the gaon burhas in developing cleanliness habit and leveraging government’s fight against corruption at village level.

MPs Rameswar Teli and Pradan Baruah, MLA Balin Chetia, president of gaon burga associaition Haketu Sema, General Secretary Bhupen Baruah and host of other dignitaries were also present.

On the other hand, prior to attending the gaon burha session, Chief Minister Sonowal installed Lai Khuta for the 74th Burhidihing-Bordumsa session of Asom Sahitya Session to be held from February 1 to 4 at Bodousa Samanyay Kshetra and prayed for all success of the session.
