Sonowal inaugurates Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Vishvavidyalaya at Na-Satra in lower Assam

Guwahati, Aug 3 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday inaugurated Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Vishvavidyalaya at Na-Satra premises in lower Assam’s Barpeta district.


The university which is unique in itself would impart contemporary education in blend with spiritualism.

Academic activities of this university would start from this month itself in Assamese, Political Science and Mathematics, which would again introduce other disciplines subsequently.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal stated that the Adhyatmik Vishvavidyalaya, which has been established on the teachings of Krishnaguru would set an agenda in the field of higher education and would stimulate intellectualism of a student in sync with spiritualism.

He also said that Krishnaguru set an ideal example of humanity and the Adhyatmik Vishvavidyalaya would be functioning based on the tenets of humanism.

“Although the university has started functioning from Barpeta in Assam, it would definitely spread all across the country and world as well,” Sonowal said.

Stating that Assam is full of possibility, potentiality and prosperity, the Assam CM urged upon the people at large to emulate the teachings of Krishnaguru to make a judicious use of the prosperities of Assam and stimulate its development.

Recounting his association with Krishnaguru Sevashram, Sonowal said that when he came to the centre first time in the year in 1988, it was in its nascent stage and since then it traversed a long distance and now it transformed itself into a centre of learning which has owned the responsibility of utilizing the resources of the state.

Taking the cues of the state’s rich legacy of spiritualism, Sonowal said that Assam could take lead in the field of modern education blended with spiritualism to build a strong connection between tradition and modernity.

Referring to Krishnaguru’s teachings who emphasised on equal dignity, Sonowal said that equal dignity leads to equal development and Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Vishvavidyalaya should take a lead in transforming the state to promote equal development.

The Assam CM also announced that his government would help to introduce e-learning as an essential component of this university so that this higher educational institution could build a truck with other universities of repute.

Minister of Education Himanta Biswa Sarma while speaking on the occasion termed the inauguration of the academic session of the university as a path breaking event in the field of higher education in the state.

He also hoped that the university would be functioning in line with our ancient universities like Nalanda and Takshashila.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the state government would give Rs 5 crore to set up three centres as a part of the university which will be Yoga Centre, Skill Development Centre and GNM Training Centre.

He also announced Rs 10 lakh each for 14 Krishnajyoti Vidyalaya in the state.

On the sidelines of the programme, the Assam CM also inaugurated a Beel Fishery Integrated Aquaculture and Production Centre under PPP mode at Krishnaguru Sevashram premises.

Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Science & Technology Minister Keshav Mahanta, Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami also spoke on the occasion.

MLAs Pabindra Deka, Gunin Das, Gurujyoti Das, Zakir Hussain Sikdar, Chairman of ATDC Jayanta Malla Baruah, Member Secretary of SLAC for Sports and Youth Welfare Lakshya Konwar, Deputy Commissioner Thaneswar Malakar, Vice Chancellor of the university Dr. Tarun Bora, Principal of Krishnajyoti Vidyalaya Kuntala Goswami alongwith a host of other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
