Sonowal bids farewell to Governor Banwarilal Purohit

Guwahati, Oct 5 (IBNS): Assam and Meghalaya Governor Banwarilal Purohit who left for Tamil Nadu on Thursday morning to assume the charge of Governor of Tamil Nadu, thanked the people Assam for their all-out cooperation that he received during his tenure in Assam.

Governor Purohit took over the charge of the Governor of Assam on August 22, 2016 and in the span of little more than a year in office, he took keen interest in the socio, political and cultural affairs of the states besides others.

Purohit has been appointed and shifted as the Governor of Tamil Nadu vide a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique on September 30 last.

During his tenure, he travelled length and breadth of the State and moved by the amiable nature of the people of Assam and Meghalaya, the Governor commented.

In a message on Thursday before departing for Tamil Nadu, Governor Purohit said that, he is moved by the affable nature of the people of Assam and Meghalaya who gave him all support and love to be in the gubernatorial position of the state and work for development of Assam and Meghalaya.

He also conveyed his gratitude to the political parties, organisations, educational institutions and people at large to work to contribute to the growth of Assam and Meghalaya which is full potentialities and possibilities.

Earlier Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal bade farewell to Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit who has been appointed and shifted as Governor of Tamil Nadu.

Sonowal bade farewell to him at Loka Priya Goinath Bordoloi International Airport this morning and presented him with traditional Assamese Gamocha and Sarai.

Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dilip Kumar Paul, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, PWD Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Rihon Daimary, Irrigation Minister Ranjit Dutta, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Director General of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay and several other senior civil and police administration officers were present at the farewell programme.
