Sonika Chauhan Death: Actor Vikram Chatterjee arrested
After beginning probe into the matter, police initially charged Chatterjee under several bailable sections, including IPC 304A (Causing death by negligence).
Later, an Investigating Officer (IO) from Tollygunge Police Station appealed to a city court at Alipore to slap non-bailable IPC section 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) on Vikram Chatterjee in connection with their ongoing probe into the death of model Sonika Chauhan.
On Apr 29, Sonika Chauhan was killed and Chatterjee was seriously injured after their speeding sedan, which was being driven by Chatterjee that day, lost its control and crashed into a pavement near Lake Mall in south Kolkata's Rash Behari Avenue area.
Chatterjee in the initial stages of probe, denied to be in the drunken state when the accident happened. Though medical reports did not clarify whether he was drunk or not, it was proved that the car was driven at a very high speed.
However, Chatterjee later confessed that he had consumed some alcohol on the accident night.
The arrested actor is a popular face on Bengali television as he was playing a lead role in one of the daily soaps. Vikram also acted in several Bengali films.
