Sonia, Rahul pay tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary

New Delhi, Aug 20 (IBNS): Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi paid tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the latter's birth anniversary at the Veer Bhumi in New Delhi on Sunday.

Rajiv Gandhi's son Rahul and daughter Priyanka Gandhi also paid their respects to their late father.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, ex-Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar also visited the Veer Bhumi to pay their respects to Rajiv Gandhi.

Rajiv Gandhi  was the 6th Prime Minister of India, serving from 1984 to 1989.

He took office after the 1984 assassination of his mother, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to become the youngest Indian Prime Minister at the age of 40.
