Panaji/Mumbai/IBNS: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s friend-turned political foe Shiv Sena will be backing late Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's son Utpal Parrikar in the upcoming state elections if the latter contests as an Independent candidate from Panaji.

Sena MP and spokesperson Sanjay Raut on Monday said he is urging all non-BJP parties including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Goa Forward Party (GFP) not to field a candidate against Utpal Parrikar as a tribute to Manohar Parikkar, who was a BJP stalwart.

He tweeted, "If #UtpalParrikar contests Independent frm Panaji seat,I propose all non-BJP parties including @AamAadmiParty @INCIndia @AITCofficial @Goaforwardparty shd support his candidature & not field a candidate against him. This will be a true tribute to ManoharBhai!"

It is to be noted, Utpal Parrikar is still in the BJP, which governs Goa.

With the elections to be held on Feb 14, the Congress and the new contestants like the AAP and TMC are flexing their muscles to oust the BJP from power.
