Sharad Pawar to contest 2019 Lok Sabha polls

| @indiablooms | Feb 20, 2019, at 10:48 am

Mumbai, Feb 20 (IBNS): Just few days before the Election Commission (EC)'s announcement of the Lok Sabha poll dates, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has said he will contest the forthcoming elections.

Pawar, a present Rajya Sabha member, confirmed when he was asked about the allegations that he is promoting dynasty politics.

However, he clarified his family members- Parth Pawar, Rohit Pawar and Ajit Pawar- won't contest the upcoming crucial elections which will determine whether the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be in power for a second straight term.

Ajit is an MLA from Maharashtra and a former Deputy Chief Minister of the state.

Pawar's NCP is one of the opposition parties which came together to defeat the ruling BJP in the forthcoming polls.

Last week, the NCP supremo was seen with other key opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, sketching out the plans of the opposition alliance.

In Maharashtra, the NCP is also expected to fight in an alliance with Congress in the General Elections.

The EC is expected to announce the polls dates by the end of February.
