Guwahati, Aug 14  (IBNS): Ahead of the 2018 Independence Day celebrations, security measures have been beefed up in Assam.

Heavy alert has been sounded in many districts of the state following several militant groups, including banned outfit ULFA-I, calling for boycott during the Independence Day celebration.

In Guwahati, over 50 check posts have been set up at all entry and exit points and checking of all vehicles on the city roads.

Security of the Guwahati Railway station has been beefed up considerably by NF Railway in view of the coming Independence Day celebration.

A quick reaction team comprising 13 fully armed RPSF jawans along with 26 RPF personnel under one officer has been on shift duty at the station.

30 GRP personnel, along with 10 CRPF jawans, are also helping in maintaining security of the station in each shift.

Sniffer dogs have also been pressed into service on tracks.

The River Police is also conducting searches on the Brahmaputra river.
