Sea plane service begins in Mumbai today

Mumbai, Aug 26 (IBNS): A sea plane service connecting Mumbai to tourist destinations of the Western Ghats was kicked off on Tuesday. The inaugural flight carried nine passengers to the Pavana reservoir near Lonavala from the Juhu aerodrome.

This new means of transportation, at an inaugural fare of Rs.2999 per head for one-way journey, will offer an alternative way to passengers and tourists travelling on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The service will cut short travel time to about 45 minutes to destinations like Mula Dam near Shirdi, Gangapur dam in Nashik and Dhoom dam near Mahabaleshwar which usually takes about five-hours on the Mumbai-Pune expressway if anyone travels by road.

Sources said the operators of the sea plane service have plans to add more destinations such as Shirdi, Nashik and Mahabaleshwar in the days to come.

The one way fare will remain the same till September 15 this year but could be revised after that, officials said.
