SC/ST mark on chest: Rahul Gandhi attacks BJP government over MP constable recruitment controversy

New Delhi, Apr 30 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked the Centre over the labelling of the aspirants for the post of police constables with their respective castes on their chest during a medical examination in Madhya Pradesh

Gandhi said the 'racist attitude' of the BJP-led central government has hit the country badly.

In a tweet, Gandhi said his party will defeat the 'thinking' of the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

"The casteist mentality of the BJP government has stabbed the country on its chest and by writing SC/ST on the chest of the youth of Madhya Pradesh, it has attacked the Constitution," Gandhi tweeted.

He further said: "This is the thinking of BJP/RSS. This thinking earlier led to tying "handi"to their neck, led to tying broom to the body, did not allow them to enter temples. We are now going to defeat this mentality."

A controversy erupted after several candidates, who appeared for the  medical test for the constable’s job in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar area, were allegedly marked with ‘SC’, ‘ST’ and ‘OBC’ on their chests, media reports said on Sunday.

The photographs of this medical test procedure has gone viral online.

In the image, candidates could be seen standing with their castes being marked on chest.

Birendra Kumar Singh, Dhar superintendent of police, said an inquiry has been initiated into the incident.

He was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times: "An inquiry has been initiated. Those found guilty will be punished ."

The Congress attacked the Madhya Pradesh government, ruled by the BJP, over the incident.
