SCO meet: PM Modi gives tough message to China, Pakistan

New Delhi: Indian PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet virtually which was also attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, among other leaders.

"India has strong cultural and historical ties with Shanghai Cooperation Organisation countries," Modi said.

Giving a message to neighbours China and Pakistan without naming them, Modi said: "India believes that to enhance connectivity it is important that we move forward while respecting one another's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

Modi made the remark at a time when India was engaged in a border conflict with China in recent times.

Apart from China, India was engaged in a conflict with neighbours Pakistan.

More than four decades after the last fatality occurred during a conflict at the India-China border, at least 20 Indian personnel were killed in the conflict with the Chinese military at the Galwan Valley on June 15, which is close to Aksai Chin, an area that is controlled by China but claimed by both the countries.

Earlier the Trump Administration has backed India against the Chinese incursions along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh.
