SC to hear Gopal Ansal's plea for verdict modification in the Upahaar Fire tragedy case
The hearing on the apex court's earlier verdict -- that Gopal Ansal serve the remaining jail term -- will be held on Mar 3, according to media reports.
In 1996, 59 people had died in a fire that engulfed the Uphaar Cinema owned by the Ansals.
On Feb 9 this year, the Supreme Court had ruled that the Ansal brothers, real estate barons who built and operated Delhi's Uphaar cinema, were guilty of causing death due to negligence. SC had asked Gopal Ansal to surrender and serve his year-long sentence.
The apex court had let off elder brother Sushil Ansal based on the sentence he had already served and his old age and ailment, media reported.
