SC makes important observation on entry of women in Sabarimala temple, says anyone can go

New Delhi, July 18 (IBNS): In a major decision, the Supreme Court, while hearing petitions which challenged the ban on entry of women aged between 10  to 50 years to Sabarimala temple, on Wednesday said women enjoyed the right to pray as per the constitutional norm and that do not depend on any law.

A  five-judge constitutional bench of the apex court heard the case and later expressed their observation over the issue.

Female devotees in the age group of 10-50 years are banned from entering the temple.

The temple sees a rush of devotees during the annual three-month long pilgrimage that ends with the Makaravilakku Festival in mid-January.

In January this year, reports had emerged that women had to furnish acceptable age proof to enter the Ayyappa Temple in Sabarimala in Kerala.
