SC asked to not let Sasikala take oath till it decides on graft case

Chennai, Feb 6 (IBNS): Amid reports that J. Jayalalithaa's close aide Sasikala Natarajan will take oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, the Supreme Court was on Monday petitioned to forbid her from taking charge of the office for the time being.

The apex court has been petitioned by a PIL that the oath taking ceremony should not happen till it decides on whether Sasikala is guilty of conspiring with Jayalalithaa to accumulate vast amounts of wealth which is presumably beyond known sources.

The top court said earlier in the day that it would make that decision next week.

The developments come after O. Panneerselvam's resignation has been accepted by Tamil Nadu Governor Vidhya Sagar Rao earlier in the day.

"TN Governor Vidhya Sagar Rao accepts Honourable CM Thiru.O. Panneerselvam's Resignation," the AIADMK party tweeted.

Longtime companion of J Jayalalithaa- Sasikala Natarajan- is all set to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, officials have earlier said.

She has been elected as the AIADMK Legislature Party Leader.

After Jayalalithaa's death in December last year, O Panneerselvam took oath as the CM of the state.
