Saradha scam : CBI raids 14 locations in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 28 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday had carried out search operation in 14 locations in Assam, including the homes of two former ministers of the state government, one former DGP of Assam police and a filmmaker, in connection with its probe into the multi-crore Saradha chitfund scam.

 Searches were conducted at 12 locations in Guwahati and two in Dhubri.

The CBI raided at the residences of former minister of Education and Health Department of Assam and MLA of Jalukbari constituency Himanta Biswa Sarma and MLA of Amguri constituency Anjan Dutta in Guwahati.

The CBI team  also raided at the residences of former DGP of Assam police Sankar Baruah, filmmaker-singer Sadananda Gogoi and SBI’s Chenikuthi branch.

A top source of the investigating agency said that the team raided at the office of News Live channel which is owned by former minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma.

The CBI also raided two locations in Dhubri including a biscuit factory of the Saradha group.

On other hand, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said those who will be found guilty into the matter will be punished.

“Nobody should be allowed to go free in connection with the Saradha or other chit funds,” Assam CM said.

Meanwhile, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has demanded the arrest of two former minister and former DGP.
