Saradha scam: CBI arrests Matang Sinh's ex-wife Manoranjana Sinh

Kolkata, Oct 7 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) on Wednesday arrested former union minister Matang Sinh's estranged wife Manoranjana Sinh and Kolkata-based businessman Shantanu Ghosh for their alleged involvement in multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam, officials said.
According to reports, after receiving call from the CBI, Manoranjana Sinh and Shantanu Ghosh visited the probe agency's office at CGO Coplex in Kolkata and after a marathon questioning session, they were arrested.
 
The CBI said in a statement: "The Central Bureau of Investigation has today arrested then owner of a private media company and a businessman in an on-going investigation of one of the alleged multi-crore Chit Fund Cases."
 
"Both the arrested persons have also been interrogated earlier but they not only failed to explain the facts but also allegedly concealed vital information and did not cooperate with CBI. Their alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy with then CMD of the said Group for obtaining personal gain of huge amount running into crores of rupees by way of misappropriation of funds collected from innumerable poor investors & also cheating them have come during the on-going investigation," it said.
 
The arrested accused persons will be produced before the Designated Court at Alipore in  Kolkata on Thursday.
 
Shantanu Ghosh was earlier arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the same case and granted bail later.
 
The CBI had earlier arrested former minister Matang Sinh in January this year in the same case and he is in judicial custody.
