Saradha: Madan Mitra leaves hospital

Kolkata, Nov 1 (IBNS): After getting bail from the Alipore Court, West Bengal Transport and Sports Minister Madan Mitra, who was earlier arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), in connection with Saradha chit fund scam and was being treated in Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) hospital's VVIP unit for months with several 'diseases', left the hospital on Sunday morning, carrying a 'fit' certificate issued by the state owned hospital.

A local court in Kolkata granted him conditional bail on Saturday.

After completing all bail related procedures, Madan Mitra was released from hospital and went to his home at Bhawanipore area in Kolkata on Sunday.

A huge number of Madan-followers gathered in front of his house.

While entering into own house after 325 days, Madan Mitra said, "I am well."

Meanwhile, respecting the condition given by the court, Madan Mitra's lawyers on Sunday went to CBI's office at CGO Complex in Kolkata's Salt Lake area to submit minister's passport, but the probe agency did not accept that, sources said.

"According to court's order, Madan Mitra has to come here to submit his passport. His health condition is well too. So, we did not accept his passport from his representative. We are also going to higher court to challenge this order," one CBI official told IBNS.

When WB chief minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee was asked on Sunday about Madan Mitra's bail, she avoided answering on the issue.

"This is a legal process and a matter of the court. I don't want to comment on it," Banerjee told the media.

After a marathon questioning session, the CBI arrested Madan Mitra on Dec 12 last year for his alleged involvement in multi-crore Saradha financial scam.

However, no heavyweight TMC leader has visited Madan Mitra so far.
