Samajwadi Party feud :Amar Singh declares support to Mulayam, both factions in Delhi over party symbol

Lucknow, Jan 2 (IBNS) : The in-house war of Uttar Pradesh's ruling Samajwadi Party shifted to the national capital on Monday with leaders of both the factions arriving in Delhi staking claims over the party's symbol, which SP patriarch Mulyam Singh Yadav said is his "own signature," reports said.

The situation that has been going through repeated twists dwarfing even a Bollywood potboiler, assumed a new dimension on Monday with party leader Amar Singh reaffirming his support to Mulayam Singh, whose loyalists seem to have heavily outnumbered by those in the faction led by his son and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The Samajwadi Party split on Sunday with Akhilesh being declared top boss in place of his father and the party's founder, at a massive show of strength in a public ground in Lucknow.

After the political coup, the Akhilesh faction, guided by Ram Gopal Yadav, another brother of Mulayam, now eyes for the party's symbol, cycle, to take control of the party.

According to reports, Mulayam Singh reached Delhi along with his brother Shivpal as did Amar Singh, who returned from London. They are expected to meet the Election Commission to retain the party symbol.

On the other hand Ram Gopal Verma will  also visit the EC head office presenting the case for the rebel faction, which now claims to be the mainstream SP.

Speaking to the media on the ongoing feud,  Amar Singh said: "I was with Mulayam and will remain with him. My association with him made me a hero and if needed I can become a villian also."

Amar Singh has been expelled from the party  by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who earlier branded him as one responsible for the uncontrollable feud within the party.

On his expulsion, Singh said,  "Once Mulayam had said that I am in his heart not in the party. So if Mulayam expels me from his heart then it will be saddening for me. The party does not matter to me."
