Samajwadi Party expels UP minister Pawan Pandey for six years

Lucknow, Oct 26 (IBNS): Pawan Pandey, the lawmaker from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, has been expelled from the Samajwadi Party (SP) for disciplinary reasons, the media reported on Wednesday.

Pandey, a minister in the ruling government, is known to be close to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The party's state president Shivpal Singh Yadav said the step was taken after SP MLC Ashu Mallik complained of Pawan Pandey assaulting Mallik, media reported.

Reportedlly, Ashu Mallik is said to be a Shivpal Yadav loyalist.

In a press conference on on Wednesday, Shivpal Yadav said that he has requested the chief minister to drop Pawan Pandey from the ministry.

Pandey has been expelled for six years, media reported.

Shivpal Singh Yadav is the younger brother of former UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav and uncle to the current CM.

Shivpal Singh Yadav, who was also a cabinet minister in the Akhilesh Yadav government, was recently stripped of his portfolio by his CM nephew, indicating a brewing family feud prior to the elections in Uttar Pradesh,
