Sabarimala/UNI: Kerala will depute 10,017 police officials in and around the world famous Lord Ayyappa temple and base camp to check unwanted incidents in the wake of opening of temple for the two-month long Mandalam-Makaravilakku Festival beginning on November 17.

Citing threat from various extremist organisations including Maoists, the State Police took extra measures including aeriel survey by defence forces during the festival in the forest shrine.

The temple, scheduled to open on November 16 for this year's two-month long Mandalam-Makaravilakku Festival, had witnessed several protests last year from devotees who opposed the SC verdict allowing entry for women of menstrual age.

Official sources said 24 SPs and ASPs, 112 DYSPs, 264 Inspectors, 1185 Sub Inspectors and Assistant Sub Inspectors, 8402 civil police officers, 307 women officials and forces from other categories including special branch and Thunderbolt will be deputed in five stages in and around the forest temple.
