RSS adopts new dress code from Dussehra

Patna, Oct 11 (The Bihar Post/IBNS): Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological fountainhead of the BJP, on Tuesday, adopted trousers as part of its dress code, replacing its iconic Khaki shorts, its trademark uniform for the past 90 years.

The transformation indicates the “generational change” in an organization which came into existence on Sep 27, 1925 while India was under British rule.

Everyone, from RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat to Union minister Nitin Gadkari to Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, were seen attending the function dressed in trousers on the Dussehra day, at Nagpur.

So what prompted the change in their uniform? Was it a routine act or done under compulsion?

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which is headed is Lalu Prasad claims it was Rabri Devi’s taunts which compelled the RSS to replace shorts with trousers.

“After I strongly criticised elderly RSS workers shamelessly wearing half pants in front of people, it remained in their memory following which now they have decided to wear brown trousers in place of khaki shorts,” Rabri who is wife of RJD President Lalu Prasad, had told reporters recently.

"RSS me budha budha admi half pant pahanta hai. RSS kaisa sangthan hay jaha budhe bhi half pant pahante hai. Logo ke samne enhe half pant pahankar aane me sharam bhi nahi aata hai," (In RSS, old people wear shorts. What kind of an organisation is RSS where even old people wear shorts? They are not even ashamed to wear them in front of everyone) was how she had commented in March this year.

RSS chief Prasad too has claimed it was Rabri’s comments which forced RSS to change its dress code.

“Rabri Devi has forced RSS to change its dress code,” was how Prasad tweeted in March this year.
