RG Kar: Arrested civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy claims ex-Kolkata CP Vineet Goyal framed him in the case
Kolkata/IBNS: Civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy, who was arrested by Kolkata Police in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has claimed he was being framed by former city Commissioner of Police Vineet Goyal, media reports said.
Sanjoy claimed this shouting from a prison van after the court hearing on the case.
The accused claimed, "I have been framed by (former) Commissioner of Police Vineet Goyal, who conspired the entire thing. They had threatened me. There were big officers in it."
Goyal was the CP when the RG Kar rape-murder incident occurred on the intervening night of August 8 and 9.
The Kolkata Police and state administration were accused of the alleged cover-up of the incident.
After massive protests including ceasework by the junior doctors, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee replaced Goyal with Manoj Kumar Verma as the Kolkata CP.
Days ago, Sanjoy had claimed innocence as charges were framed against him in a case that sent shockwaves across the country triggering public fury and massive protests in West Bengal.
"I did not commit any crime. I have been framed in this rape-murder case. No one is willing to listen to my side of the story. The government is framing me and threatening me to shut my mouth. I am being framed to protect the real culprits," he had said.
As per the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chargesheet, Sanjay Roy is the only man who has been accused of the rape and murder of the PGT doctor at the RG Kar facility on August 9.
He has been under the BNS sections 103(2), 64, 66. The trial in the case will begin on November 11.
The framing of charges came 87 days after the incident.
The evidence depends on digital and material proof that establishes him at the scene of the crime on that fateful day.
The probe agency has shown Roy entered the trauma centre of RG Kar at 3:34 am on August 9.
The CBI was handed over the case after the Calcutta High Court expressed dissatisfaction and pointed out several lapses in the investigation by the Kolkata Police.
