Republic Day celebrated in mosques across Kerala, pledge to protect Constitution taken

| @indiablooms | Jan 26, 2020, at 06:43 pm

Thiruvananthapuram/IBNS: In a first, all mosques in Kerala hoisted the tricolour and decorated their premises with saffron white and green festoons on the occasion of Republic Day today, media reports said.

The Kerala State Wakf Board had earlier said that all mosques in Kerala would hoist the tricolour and read the Preamble to the Constitution to promote national integration.

Muslim organisations in the state had also encouraged the people of the community to celebrate Republic Day to send a message across.

A circular and a copy of the Preamble in this connection was sent to all mahal committees to unfurl the tricolour and take the pledge to protect the country’s Constitution.

The development comes amid call by various Muslim organisations, political and others across the country to protect the Constitution in the wake of passing of the amended Citizenship Act and the National Register of Citizens(NRC) across the country.
