Relief from flood: Centre to construct 30 km long embankment cum road in Kaziranga

Assam forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma on Thursday said that, the Centre has already given green signal to construct the embankment cum road in the national park and the state forest department will submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Rs 100 crore project to Centre in next month.

“The state forest department has asked the Kaziranga National Park authority to prepare the project. It will help to protect the wild animals and the park from the devastating flood, claiming several wild animals including one horned rhinos every year,” Pramila Rani Brahma said.

At least 80 animals including four one horned rhinos died in the current wave flood inundated over 73 per cent areas of the national park.

The park had lost over 1000 wild animals drowned in flood waters, which had submerged maximum areas of Kaziranga.

The Assam minister said that, the state forest department has also decided to install more electronic eyes in the national park to monitor the wild animals and poacher movement inside the world heritage site.

“The state forest department has decided to increase the electronic eyes from present eight numbers to 15,” Brahma said.

On the other hand, the state forest minister has contributed her one month salary to the Assam Chief Minister relief fund to help the flood affected people of the state.

“The officials of the state forest department have also contributed their five days salary to CM relief fund,” the Assam minister said.
