Kolkata, Aug 29 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said the number of rape incidents in her states have reduced by 12 percent.

"I am against any rape or any act of violence. ...In Bengal, the number of rapes has come down by 12%. These statistics are determined by the population. We do not want rapes to be politicised. So many cases of riots are happening in other States. We are giving shelter to refugees," Banerjee told a Bengali news channel.

She said the Bharatiya janata Party (BJP) is trying to 'incite violence' in Bengal.

" We will not allow it. We will not allow communal riots in Bengal," she said.

Speaking on Union Finance Minister's remarks on her recent Singapore tirp, Banerjee said: "Jaitley ji is showing us FDI, we are showing him PPP. There should be a way out when you have to work for the people. We are against forceful acquisition, but we have the alternative of land bank."
