Rally in memory of Sardar Patel sidelines Indira's death anniversary

New Delhi, Oct 31 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday walked briskly with a crowd in Delhi for the “Run for Unity” rally in memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government stayed away from Indira Gandhi’s memorial.

This was perhaps for the first time when no one from the Central government was present to mark the death anniversary of the former prime minister who was assassinated on this day by her Sikh bodyguards 30 years ago.

PM Modi, however, tweeted: “I join my fellow countrymen and women in remembering former PM Smt. Indira Gandhi on her Punya Tithi (death anniversary).”
