Rajya Sabha begins post lunch session with discussion on Kashmir
New Delhi, Jul 18 (IBNS): The Rajya Sabha resumed its post-lunch session on Monday with a short discussion on the recent violence and turmoil in Kashmir, according to media reports.
Vice President Hamid Ansari agreed to hold the discussion.
The discussion began with Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad addressing the Rajya Sabha members.
He said while his party was with the government to end militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, they were protesting against the treatment meted to civilians. He added that the situation is worse than what it was in 2008 and 2010.
He said militants and civilians cannot be treated in the same way. He pointed out that pellet guns were used in Kashmir, something which was not used even during the Haryana protests.
He also said, action is not being taken against people who make irresponsible statements.
He questioned why the situation has not calmed down despite 10 days of curfew.
Jammu and Kashmir is now ruled by PDP in alliance with the BJP
