Rajnath Singh mourns loss of lives in UP stampede

New Delhi, Oct 9 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday condoled the loss of lives in the stampede incident during a political rally in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow which left two people dead.

"Deeply saddened to know about the loss of precious lives in a stampede during a rally in Lucknow today," Singh tweeted.

"My heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the stampede. I pray for the quick recovery of the injured," he said.

The Minister said: "Spoke to the DGP of Uttar Pradesh who apprised me of the situation in Lucknow in the wake of today's unfortunate accident."

A stampede during a rally of Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mawayati in Uttar Pradesh left two people dead on Sunday, media reports said.

Several people have been reportedly injured in the mishap which occurred in state capital Lucknow.

According to reports, huge number of BSP supporters had assembled at the venue when the stampede occurred.

Hundreds are said to be missing, among whom are 15 children, NDTV reported quoting police sources.

Doctors have rushed to the spot.
