Srinagar/UNI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar Thursday to attend an event to mark Jammu and Kashmir's accession to India and airlifting of Indian troops into J&K in 1947, officials said.

The day is celebrated as "Shaurya Divas".

Singh is the second top Union Minister to visit the union territory this month.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Jammu and Kashmir earlier in October.

Singh attended an Army function on the outskirts of Srinagar, where the landing of Indian troops at Srinagar airport on Oct 27, 1947, was reenacted.

Later in the day, Rajnath will reach Leh on a two-day visit to Ladakh.

"Today, 27th October, I shall be in Srinagar to attend the ‘Shaurya Diwas’ programme organised by the Indian Army. Later in the day, I shall be reaching Leh on a two day visit to Ladakh," Rajnath Singh tweeted earlier.
