Rajnath Singh discusses Afghanistan situation with US Defence secretary Lloyd J Austin

New Delhi: Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh talked to US Defence secretary Lloyd J Austin over the issue of Afghanistan on Monday.

The two leaders also discussed matters related to defence cooperation.

"Had a warm telephone conversation with @SecDef Mr Lloyd Austin. We discussed issues pertaining to bilateral defence cooperation & regional matters including situation in Afghanistan.We agreed to continue the useful dialogue & look forward to strengthening the partnership further," Singh tweeted.

Afghanistan witnessed a political turmoil in recent times as foreign forces started leaving the nation.

The Taliban insurgents captured territories and finally took control over Afghanistan after entering Kabul on Aug 15.

The Taliban also formed its government in the country recently.
