Rajnath says Congress lost elections for its poor language, refuses to comment on ML Khattar

Mumbai: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has claimed that Congress lost the general elections earlier this year for its abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but refused to comment on the recent indecorous words used by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar against Sonia Gandhi.

"In a healthy democracy, if poor words are used against any institution, be it the Prime Minister or President or a judge, then everyone knows that person doesn't believe in democratic ethics," Rajnath Singh told NDTV on Monday while campaigning in Maharashtra.

Singh made reference to then Congress President Rahul Gandhi's repeated attacks on PM Modi using the phrase "Chowkidar Chor hai", accusing him of corruption in the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets and facilitating an offset contract for businessman Anil Ambani.

However, Singh said, "I haven't heard what he said, so I won't react", when he was asked about Haryana Chief Minister's comment on Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi, the NDTV reported.

Addressing a rally in Sonipat Haryana on Oct 14, Khattar had said that after Rahul Gandhi's resignation from the post of the Congress Chief everyone thought now someone who would be the Congress chief will not be from the Gandhi family.

“However, after three months when the party made Sonia Gandhi as the chief it was like, 'khoda pahaad, nikli chuhiya, woh bhi mari hui... (like digging up a mountain to find a mouse, that too a dead one)," he reportedly said.

The Congress called the remark a 'cheap' one and added that it shows the kind of mindset the BJP leader has for women.
