Rajasthan woman allegedly killed by lover after driving 600 km to meet him

A 37-year-old woman, Mukesh Kumari, an anganwadi supervisor from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, was found dead in her car on September 11 after she drove nearly 600 km to Barmer to meet her lover and press him for marriage, media reports said on Monday.

Police have arrested Manaram, a schoolteacher from Barmer, on charges of murdering Mukesh with an iron rod.

The two had met on Facebook last October and developed a relationship. Mukesh, who divorced her husband about a decade ago, often traveled long distances to see him.

According to investigators, Mukesh had been urging Manaram, whose own divorce case is still pending in court, to marry her, leading to frequent arguments.

On September 10, she visited his home and told his family about their relationship, prompting a heated exchange that even required police counseling earlier that day.

Later that evening, police say, Manaram allegedly struck Mukesh on the head, killing her.

He then placed her body in the driver’s seat of her Alto car and pushed it off the road to stage it as an accident. The next morning, he informed his lawyer, who alerted the police.

However, phone location records placed him with Mukesh at the time of her death. Under questioning, he confessed to the crime.

Mukesh’s body is currently in the district hospital morgue in Barmer, awaiting the arrival of her family.
