Rahul takes a dig at Modi for dodging BJP worker's question

New Delhi, Dec 25 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for apparently dodging question on taxation from a BJP worker.

On December 19, Modi, during an interaction with party workers from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, had faced a question from a person called Nirmal Kumar Jain who asked why the government was only interesting in collecting taxes from the middle class but not passing enough benefits to them.

He also asked Modi to “take care of the middle class like the way you take care while collecting tax from them”.

Modi, visibly uncomfortable, put up a brave face and said: "Nirmalji, you are a business and it's only natural you will talk about business. We are in favour of taking care of the people, we assure you."

After an awkward silence, he quickly moved on and invited questions from party workers from Puducherry. "People from Puducherry, Vanakam!"

Taking a dig at Modi's behaviour, the Congress president on Tuesday said: "Vanakam Puducherry! That’s NoMo’s answer to the struggling middle class. Forget a press conference he can’t even string together a polling booth worker’s conference. BJP-vetted questions is a superb idea. Consider vetted answers as well."

Narendra Modi has not held a single news conference since becoming Prime Minister in 2014.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently indicated that Narendra Modi was the real silent PM because he hadn't held a single news conference since becoming the country's Prime Minister.

Speaking at the launch of his ‘Changing India’ volume of six books, Singh had said: "I was not the PM who was afraid of talking to the press, I met them regularly and on every foreign trip, I had the press conference on the plane on returning."

Since before the 2014 general elections, Modi has been taunting the former Prime Minister as "Maun Mohan Singh".
