Rahul sends 'hug' to Modi after Rajiv Gandhi corrupt remark

| @indiablooms | May 05, 2019, at 02:22 pm

New Delhi, May 5 (IBNS): After Narendra Modi's remarks on his father Rajiv Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday sent a "huge hug" to the Prime Minister.

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi wrote: "Modi Ji, The battle is over. Your Karma awaits you. Projecting your inner beliefs about yourself onto my father won't protect you. All my love and a huge hug. Rahul."

Rahul had earlier made headlines by hugging Modi inside the Parliament House.

This comes after PM Modi attacked Rahul Gandhi and said his father was 'Bhrashtachari No 1' (corrupt number 1).

"Your father was termed 'Mr Clean' by his courtiers, but his life ended as 'Bhrashtachari No 1' (corrupt number 1)," Modi said at a rally in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

Rahul Gandhi and his Congress party had continuously attacked PM Modi over the Rafale fighter jet deal.

Modi's comment was linked to the corruption allegations against former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi related to another defence deal - the purchase of Bofors guns in the 1980s.

However, Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated in 1991 by Sri Lankan rebels, had got a clean chit from the court in connection with the Bofors case.

The Delhi High Court had said there was no evidence to prove that Rajiv Gandhi accepted bribes and eventually it dismissed all charges against him.

The remark by PM Modi was condemned by Rajiv Gandhi's daughter and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi.

"The Prime Minister, who is seeking votes in the name of martyrs, yesterday disrespected the martyrdom of a noble man. People in Amethi will give a befitting reply... Rajiv Gandhi gave his life for the people of Amethi. Yes Modi ji, this nation never forgives deception," her tweet in Hindi read.

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said: "Modi has crossed all limits of propriety and decency by defaming a man (Rajiv Gandhi) who died in 1991."
