Rahul Gandhi mourns death of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi

New Delhi, Feb 28 (IBNS): Congress President Rahul Gandhi has mourned the death of the 69th pontiff of the Kanchi Mutt, Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi, who died on Wednesday at an age of 82.

Rahul tweeted: "I’m saddened to hear about the death of Jagadguru Pujyashri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. He was revered by lakhs of believers all over the world for his teachings. May his soul rest in peace."

Shankaracharya passed away after being admitted to a hospital with complaints of breathing problem.

His health condition was poor for the greater part of the last year.

He was the head of the mutt which was established by Adi Shankaracharya.

The mutt was established in the 5th century.
