Rahul Gandhi condoles death of Indian student in Ukraine

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday condoled the death of an Indian student in an intense shelling in Kharkiv amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

Gandhi said the Indian government  needs a strategic plan for safe evacuation of Indians from the war-torn nation.

"Received the tragic news of an Indian student Naveen losing his life in Ukraine. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. I reiterate, GOI needs a strategic plan for safe evacuation. Every minute is precious," Gandhi tweeted.

One Indian student has been killed in an intense shelling in Kharkiv amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted, "With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We convey our deepest condolences to the family."

"Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones. Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine."
