Rahul Gandhi attacks Modi govt over Chinese incursions

| @indiablooms | Feb 03, 2022, at 11:42 pm

New Delhi/UNI: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a fresh attack against the Centre over the issue of alleged Chinese incursions and Miram Taron, who was reportedly assaulted by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) before being released, and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the same.

"China occupied our country's land, and now kidnapping and torturing our citizens. Modi ji silently waiting for 'achhe din'. Embarrassing," the former Congress president wrote in a tweet in Hindi.

His statement comes a day after BJP MP from Arunachal Pradesh Tapir Gao said that Taron was allegedly physically tortured by Chinese soldier before being released and accused the PLA of violating international norms.

"Miram Taron was abducted by the PLA from inside Indian territory around mid-January. He was physically tortured by Chinese soldiers before he was released. Taron's father informed me that he was blindfolded and given electric shocks," the Arunachal East MP told UNI.

Attacking China, Gao said, "They have violated international conventions by torturing him. I condemn such act. It should not happen."

The Congress has been demanding that the central government take concrete steps over alleged Chinese incursions in various border areas, especially in the North Eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.
