New Delhi, Sept 23 (IBNS) : India on Friday finally clinched the deal for its Air Force for 36 Rafal fighters with France ending years of negotiations between the two countries.

According to reports, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and his French counterpart Jean Yves LeDrian signed the contract in Delhi involving an expenditure of Rs  58,000 crore or 7.8 billion Euros.

India will also get spares and weaponry, including the Meteor missile, considered among the most advanced in the world.

The acquisition of this weapon is expected to put India ahead of Pakistan or China in some respect as neither of these two countries possess a weapon of the same class, reports said.

The first Rafale warplanes are slated to be delivered approximately within 18 months of the signing of the final contract.
