Punjab: Teenage girl killed, father injured as roof caves in Jalandhar

Jalandhar, Jul 15 (UNI) Heavy rains claimed a life in the city as a roof of a house which was already in dilapidated conditions caved in Krishna Nagar locality near Adarsh Nagar.

The deceased had been identified as 10-year-old Sushma while her father Radhey Shyam, a migrant labor sustained serious injuries.

The incident took place late last mid night when all of a sudden, roof of the room in which both father and daughter were sleeping caved in and and the duo were buried under the debris of the collapsed roof. Other members of the family escaped as they were sleeping outside the room.

Lakshmi, mother of the deceased girl, said that they were living in the room for the past ten years and had asked the owner many a times to get the roof repaired which was in dilapidated conditions but he did not pay heed to their request.

He also got the debris of his newly constructed shop accumulated on the roof top of the house putting extra burden on the roof which was already about to fall.

Police has started investigations.
