Punjab results: Heavyweights CM Channi, Navjot Sidhu, Amarinder Singh trailing

Congress heavyweights Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu along with former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh are all heading towards defeats in the face of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s triumph in the northern state which went to polls last month.

As the results are coming out, Channi, the present Chief Minister, is trailing from both seats Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur.

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu is trailing from Amritsar East.

Accepting his party's defeat, Sidhu tweeted, "The voice of the people is the voice of God …. Humbly accept the mandate of the people of Punjab …. Congratulations to Aap !!!"

Singh, a former Congressman who formed his own party and joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is trailing from Patiala Urban.

Singh tweeted, "I accept the verdict of the people with all humility. Democracy has triumphed. Punjabis have shown true spirit of Punjabiyat by rising and voting above sectarian and caste lines. Congratulations to @AAPPunjab and @BhagwantMann."
