Punjab govt announces to bring all sections of society under vaccination drive

Chandigarh/UNI: The Punjab government has announced to take appropriate measures to cover every citizen in the ambit of COVID vaccination and drive has been running in full swing at rural as well as urban areas of the state.

From health care workers, frontline workers, senior citizens, students, foreign travellers, registered labours to unregistered labourers, all will be vaccinated, a government source said.

Disclosing this here Wednesday, Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said data available on Govt portals depicts a valuable picture of achievement made so far in COVID vaccination.

He said two types of vaccines-Covaxin and Covishield-are available for administration in public.

Till now, the Punjab government has received a quota of 5,98,060 Covaxin doses from the Centre and the state purchased quota for the same is around 1,50,850.

Similarly, 48,16,580 Covishiled vaccine has been provided by the Centre, of which 4643786 is utilised.

Sidhu added that Punjab Government has procured 5,86,000 doses of Covishield from which 5,30,603 doses have been successfully administered till June 13.

A total of 58,15,339 people in Punjab have received COVID vaccine till now.

Vaccination in the age group of 18-44 years has been expanded to include students studying abroad, foreign employed persons, shop keepers, workers of the hospitality industry, delivery boys etc.

The vaccination would be conducted in a campaign ward-wise and village wise.
