Guwahati, June 4 (IBNS): Concerned about reports of security threats to Sikhs in Shillong, a four-member delegation of the Punjab government on Monday visited Shillong to take stock of the situation.

The team led by Cabinet minister Sukhjinder Randhawa, along with MPs Gurjit Aujla and Ravneet Bittu, and MLA Kuldip Singh Vaid, arrived in Shillong and took stock the situation.

The team also met Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

After arriving at Guwahati airport, Cabinet minister of Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government, Sukhjinder Randhawa said that Sikh community people are living in Shillong for the past 100-200 years.

“The violence that occurred in Shillong is very unfortunate. We will meet Meghalaya CM and urge him to find out a concrete solution,” Randhawa said.

On the other hand, MP Ravneet Bittu said that some groups, including political parties and MLAs, have pressurised Meghalaya CM to evict Sikh community people from Shillong.

The team will also meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
