Pune Porsche crash: 'How can juvenile board give such order', asks Devendra Fadnavis promising strict action

Mumbai/IBNS: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has promised strong action against the Pune teen who crashed his high-end Porsche into a motorbike, killing two techie on the spot.

Fadnavis condemned the "lenient" punishment given to the boy by the Juvenile Justice Board - a 300-word essay on accidents, working with the traffic police for 15 days and undergoing counselling for his drinking - completely in contrast with the heinous crime.

"How can the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board give such an order?" he asked.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, when 17-year-old Vedant Agarwal, who had been drinking with his friends in two pubs in Pune to celebrate his Class 12 CBSE results, knocked down the two IT professionals in the Kalyani Nagar area.

Aneesh Awadhiya (24), who was riding the bike was sent flying and hit a parked car, while Ashwini Koshta (25), who was riding pillion, was flung 20 feet into the air. Both of them died on the spot.

"We have appealed to the district court against the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board order. There is a huge public outrage. I have taken stock of the investigation updates till now," Fdnavis said.

The other two occupants of the Porsche, who are friends of the accused, are being treated as witnesses for now, and the police are trying to build a watertight case, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told NDTV Tuesday.

"The minor is 17 years and 8 months old and as per the Nirbhaya case, anyone above 16 years old should be considered an adult in cases of heinous crimes," stressed the Deputy Chief Minister.

The teen was granted bail after he wrote a 300-word essay on the topic, titled Effect on road accidents and their solution.

Vedant's father Vishal Agrawal, a prominent builder, was arrested from Aurangabad city of Maharashtra after a case was registered against him on Monday. He was reportedly on the run.
