Proposal to stay farm laws for 18 months stands on table: PM Modi at all-party meet
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the government's proposal to stay the contentious farm laws for 18 months are still on the table for the protesters, at a time the country is witnessing a massive farmers' agitation.
Modi said this during an all-party meeting ahead of the annual budget which will be presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday.
Earlier, the farmers had rejected the Centre's proposal stating they only want the repeal of the farm laws.
Following the violence which broke out in Delhi during the protesters' tractor rally on Jan 26, internet services in Delhi borders have been shut till 31st of the same month.
Police on Saturday closed the NH24 highway which leads to Ghazipur.
The farmers are on Saturday observing a day-long fast marking the death anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, who used to believe in non-violence.
"We appeal to everyone in the country to join us in observing fast on January 30," a Kisan Morcha leader said.
