Priyanka Gandhi Vadra takes strong lead in Wayanad by-poll

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is leading by over 1,00,000 votes votes as counting of votes for the Wayanad by-poll is currently underway on Saturday.

Her closest opponents in the seat are CPI veteran Sathyan Mokeri and BJP leader Navya Haridas.

The poll assumes significance since it marked the political debut of the Congress leader.

By-poll became necessary for Wayanad after Rahul Gandhi shifted to Raebareli following his victory in the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year.

Despite losing Amethi, Rahul Gandhi managed his Lok Sabha presence strong in 2019 by winning from Wayanad.

He contested and won from both Raebareli and Wayand this time in the Indian general polls.

Raebareli was left vacant after Rahul Gandhi's mother and Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi moved to the Rajya Sabha.

Rahul Gandhi decided to move to Raebareli and leave the Wayand seat for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to contest.
