Amethi, Apr 28 (UNI) Congress General Secretary (Uttar Pradesh east) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday questioned the so-called nationalist plank of the BJP and asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi is raking up his caste during this parliamentary elections.

"I don't know about the nationalism of the BJP when they are not ready to hear the grievances of the farmers, youths, women and other people," Vadra said, addressing people at a chaupal in Munshiganj area, ahead of her campaign in Bahriach and Dhaurahra constituencies.

"It is unfortunate that when farmers went to your doors without shoes, you never cared to listen. Youth were given fake assurance of jobs. Nationalism means peoples faith for the country and country means people. But when people are ditched then what will happen to nationalism?," she asked.

She also slammed the prime minister for raking up his caste during an election meeting in the state on Saturday.

"I didn't know about the caste of PM till know. Opposition particularly never used caste during the elections and always made development the main issue during the polls. We did not want to know his caste nor we made any personal comment but what made him describe his caste is a serious matter," Vadra said, alleging that Modi has stooped low to use caste during the election.

The Congress leader also made a scathing attack on Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani, who is pitted against Rahul Gandhi in his home turf Amethi.

She alleged that Irani came just 16 times in five years to Amethi and was now showing her sympathy to the voters.

"Every time she came for just 4 to 5 hours with toeing media just to distribute shoes, sarees or other things. But I know well that people of Amethi have self respect and will never support such a leader, who thinks them as beggars," she said.

Vadra also said that she comes here to know the problem of the people and later try to solve it. "We have always treated Amethi as our home and people here as our own family members."

Priyanka is camping in Rae Bareli and Amethi and campaigns here every morning before going for electioneering in other parts of the state.

Polling in Amethi and Rae Bareli will be held on May 6.
