Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demands CBI probe in mysterious death of reporter in UP

Lucknow/UNI: Congress general secretary and in charge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has demanded a CBI probe into the mysterious death of ABP reporter Sukabh Srivastava of Pratapgarh on Sunday night in the state.

She also demanded financial assistance for the family of the slain journalist.

In a letter to UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday, Vadra has written that ABP journalist Sulabh Srivastava died in a suspicious condition on the night of June 13 in Pratapgarh district. He was returning home after covering the news. According to reports, he was found dead near a brick kiln with severe injury marks on his head.

Congress leader says that on June 12, Sulabh Srivastava wrote a letter to ADG Prayagraj Zone. In the letter, he wrote to the police officer that the local liquor mafia was upset with his news report on illicit liquor and was concerned about his and his family's safety.

He was found dead under suspicious circumstances a day after the letter was sent to the administration.

In the letter, she further said that Sulabh Srivastava's family members and journalist colleagues have demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter to bring out the truth.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra added that there have been reports of deaths due to spurious liquor from many places in UP. Hundreds of people have died due to spurious liquor from Aligarh to Pratapgarh.

In such a situation, the apprehension of danger from the liquor mafia for showing news by a journalist suggests that the rule of law in the state has ended. Journalists have been attacked in the past in many places including Ballia, Unnao in UP.

She demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter as action should be taken against the nexus of liquor mafia and administration which has taken root across the state. Along with this, immediate financial help should be given to the victim's family and the dependents of the deceased, she asserted.

Vadra alleged that the state must provide security to journalists and media persons.

"I think the UP government will take positive steps towards providing justice to the family of late Sulabh Srivastava," she added.
