Priyanka Gandhi stopped by Lucknow Police from meeting family of actor-activist Sadaf Jafar

Lucknow/IBNS: Congress general secretary(UP East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was on Saturday stopped by Lucknow Police from visiting the family of a protester arrested during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests earlier this month, media reported.

"What should I say -- they have stopped me in the middle of the road. They have no reason to stop me. Only God know why they have done this!" she exclaimed, an NDTV report said.

The report said Vadra was stopped on her way to meet the family of actress Sadaf Jafar, who was arrested from Lucknow's Parivartan Chowk on Dec 19. Congress leaders are alleging that Jafar is being given "third-degree". At the time of her arrest the ctor-activist was live on Facebook, showing the destruction in the area as violent mobs has set media vans, a government bus and several private vehicles on fire. According to the report, she was questioning why only a few police personnel were present in the area while a huge number of protesters had turned out.

Jafar's bail plea has been rejected by a Lucknow court citing the charges against her as "serious" in nature.

Vadra then went to meet 76-year-old former IPS officer SR Darapuri, who was also arrested during the protests.

Uttar Pradesh police has confirmed at least 1,113 people have been arrested in connection with the CAA agitation, and identified 498 pepple, with 148 only from Meerut, who will be asked to compensate for destruction of public property.
