Prez and PM wish Sonia Gandhi on her birthday amid political tension

New Delhi, Dec 9 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi on her birthday, even as political tension continued over a court ruling asking Gandhi to appear before it in a case of newspaper fund misappropriation.

As Gandhi turned 69, President Mukherjee acknowledged her service towards the nation and said, "Warm greetings and good wishes to Smt. Sonia Gandhi on her birthday. During her long span of public life, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has rendered immense service to the country."

The President also wished for her good health.

"May the Almighty bless Smt. Gandhi with good health, happiness and many more years of dedicated service to the nation."

Prime Minister Modi said, "On her birthday, greetings to Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi. May Almighty bless her with long life & good health."

Amidst all the birthday greetings and celebrations, Sonia Gandhi and her son, Rahul, who have been directed by the Delhi HC to appear before it, is awaiting a verdict for the 'National Herald' fund misappropriation case in which they have been accused.
